Privacy policy

HomeMaintList is a home maintenance list. This page explains what it stores about you, why, who else sees it and how long it's kept. In short: we keep what the app needs to work, we don't sell or share your data for marketing, and we only use analytics on our public pages, never inside the app.

What we store

• Your account: your name, email address, timezone and reminder settings, plus the ID of the Google or Apple account you sign in with. We never see or store a password.
• Your homes: each home's name, timezone and, if you give them, its ZIP code, climate, home type, whether you own or rent it, and features such as septic or central air.
• Your tasks and history: tasks, schedules, notes, and each completion's date, note, cost and who did it.
• Your assets: appliance and system details you enter, such as brand, model, serial number, install date, warranty end date and notes.
• Household sharing: the email addresses you invite, and who belongs to each home.
• Activity: when you last used the app, so inactive accounts can be cleaned up (see below).
• Email delivery: whether our email provider reported your address as bouncing or marking our email as spam. We also count the emails we send by type, without addresses.
• Contact form messages: your email address and message.
• Feedback: if you answer one of our emails asking why the app didn't work out for you, the reason you picked and any comment.
• Server logs: like most websites, our servers record requests, including IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure.

How we use it

Only to run HomeMaintList: to show your list, work out due dates, and send the email you've asked for or that the app needs to send: your reminder digest, household invitations and notices, a warning before an inactive account is deleted, and, if you don't use the app or stop using it, a short email asking why (no more than three, ever). Every feedback email has a link to stop them. You can turn reminders off or change when they arrive in your settings, and every reminder has an unsubscribe link.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to protect forms from forgery. Your light or dark appearance choice is stored in your browser. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to stop spam, which may set its own cookies. Our public pages also use Google Analytics cookies to count visits (see below).

Who else sees your data

• People you share a home with can see and change that home's tasks, history and assets, and see who else belongs to it. If a home is transferred, its new owner gets its full task list, history and assets.
• Our service providers handle data only to provide their service to us: our hosting provider stores the app and its database, Amazon Web Services sends our email, and Cloudflare checks contact form submissions for spam.
• Google Analytics measures visits to our public pages (the home page, this policy, the terms, the contact form, and the sign-up and log-in pages) so we can see how people find HomeMaintList. It records the pages you visit, the site that sent you, your device and browser, and your approximate location. It never runs inside the app, so it doesn't see your homes, tasks or account. You can block it with Google's opt-out browser add-on or a content blocker.
• Retailers we link to: task pages and guides can suggest parts and supplies. Some are affiliate links, so if you buy after following one, we may earn a commission. The link takes you to the retailer's site, which has its own privacy policy. We count clicks on these links and the page they came from, without linking them to your account.
• Google or Apple, if you sign in with them, tell us your account ID, name and email address.
• AI assistants you connect, such as Claude, can read and change your tasks and assets when you ask them to. What they do with that data is covered by their own privacy policies. You can disconnect one at any time by removing it in that assistant's settings.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

• We keep your data while you use HomeMaintList.
• An account whose email is never verified is deleted after 30 days.
• An account with no activity for 6 months gets a warning email and is deleted 30 days later unless you sign in.
• When an account is deleted, its homes, tasks, history and assets are deleted too. A home shared with other people passes to its longest-standing member instead, and completions you logged there stay without your name.
• Feedback answers are kept after an account is deleted, without your name or email address.
• Deleted data can remain in backups for a short time until they're replaced.

Your choices

You can see and change everything you've entered in the app. From your settings you can download all your data as a ZIP of CSV files, change your email and reminders, and delete your account. For anything else, such as a question about your data, use the contact form.

Children

HomeMaintList isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has signed up, let us know and we'll delete the account.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
