Winterize Air Conditioning

Every year on October the 19th
If you live in a cold climate, you won't need your air conditioning through those cold winter months. It's best to winterize your outdoor equipment so that it's ready for the next warm season.

Things You'll Need

  • Pipe insulation (if you haven't previous applied)
  • Leaf blower
  • Plywood or other material to use as cover

Time Involved

15-20 minutes

What You Need to Do

  • Turn off the power to your outside unit (the condenser). This may be done via a shut off breaker near the unit itself, or at the breaker in the main breaker panel.
  • Clean off any dirt, debris, leaves, etc. This can be done with a leaf blower.
  • Ensure that any exposed pipes are insulted with pipe insulation.
  • Cover the top of the condenser with a piece of plywood or similar material. Weigh it down on top with bricks or other heavy objects.
  • Mark this task complete.
