Inspect water softner and add salt

If your home is not equiped with a water softener, you may consider having one installed. Otherwise, feel free to remove this task from your list. Ensuring that there is adequare salt in your softener is essential to its operation. Visually inspecting the unit on a regular basis can help identify if there are any leaks or anything else out of normal.

What You Need to Do

  • Visually inspect the water softener, the pipes entering and leaving it, and all the connections for any sign of water leaks.
  • Remove the lid for the brine tank.
  • Determine if salt needs to be added. If you can see water, you definitely need to add salt, up to a few inches above the water level. Here's a great article about the water in your brine tank.
  • Add salt as appropriate.
  • Replace the lid on your brine tank.
  • Mark this task complete.
