Every year on January the 13th
No one wants to believe that mice, squirrels, or other rodents could be in the attic, but it's still best to check. A few minutes out of your day and determine if these pests have invaded your home and allow you to be proactive before they cause big problems.

Things You'll Need

  • A ladder (if there is not a pull down ladder)
  • A flashlight

Time Involved

20-30 minutes

What You Need to Do

  • Enter the attic either via the pull down ladder, or by a ladder positioned to gain access to the entranceway.
  • Once in the attic, be sure to only step on solid wood. This means stepping on ceiling joists that you can see or on a wood platform that may rest on top of the joists.
  • Look around at the insulation and look for signs of tunneling or burrowing.
  • Look at wires and inspect for signs of chewing or gnawing.
  • Look for any rodent feces. It will look like small dark pellets.
  • If evidence is found, the next job is to inspect the house for the entry point. Hiring a professional pest removal company may be wise.
  • Mark this task complete.
