Inspect and adjust sprinkler system
Every year on March the 27th
Prior to the spring season, it's a good idea to check out your sprinkler system and ensure it is ready for regular use again. This includes making sure all the sprinkler heads are working and delivering the water to the right places.
Things You'll Need
- A small screwdriver may be used to adjust some sprinkler heads
- Slip joint pliers (commonly known as channel locks)
Time Involved
30-60 minutes
What You Need to Do
- Turn on each zone and observe the sprinklers
- Verify that all are on and spraying with the correct pattern.
- Check for overspray onto unwanted areas (sidewalks, driveways, areas covered by other sprinklers, etc)
- Look for any sprinklers that are not spraying far enough.
- Pay attention if there is any water bubbling from the ground or other sign of water flow underground.
- Make adjustments to sprinklers to eliminate overspray or adjust spray distance.
- If some sprinklers are not operating, examine them more closely and attempt to push them in the ground (gently). Many times this will spring them to life.
- If there is vegetation, grass, or other obstructions, remove them as needed.
- Verify the schedule on your timer and be sure it is appropriate.
- Mark this task complete.
