Clean gutters
Every 4 months on the 13th
The gutters on your home are meant to remove water away from the foundation. This can help your foundation last longer and help avoid moisture from entering your house. If your gutters are packed with leaves and debris, they can't do their job. A little regular maintenance will ensure that rain water is captures by your gutter system and ushered away from the house.
Things You'll Need
- Leaf Blower (optional)
- Leaf Blower attachment for gutters (optional)
- Ladder (if not using leaf blower attachment)
- Plastic scoop or kid's play shovel (if not using blower)
- Tarps (optional)
Time Involved
1-2 hours hours
What You Need to Do
- Lay a tarp out under the gutters you will be cleaning. You can skip this, but will end up with a bigger mess to clean up on the ground.
- If you are using a leaf blower and a gutter cleaning attachment, then use this from the ground and big blowing out the gutters.
- If you are using a leaf blower, without an attachment, place your ladder and blow the gutters out from the top. You'll need to reposition the ladder as needed.
- If you are not using a leaf blower at all, utilize the plastic scoop to scoop out the bulk of the material. Do not use a metal scoop as you could scratch and damage the gutters. You'll need to reposition the ladder as needed.
- Once the bulk of the material is removed via the blower or scooping, remove the tarps.
- Using a hose, rinse the gutters well to remove any remaining debris. Ensure that water is flowing from your downspouts and there are no clogs.
- Mark this task complete.
