Clean bathroom exhaust fans
Every 4 months on the 18th
Anything that spins around on a regular basis in your home is going to accumulate dust. Add in a moist environment and bathroom exhaust fans can get extremely packed and clogged with dust. Performing regular cleaning of these fans can help them operate more efficiently and continue moving the correct volume of air to keep your bathroom free of unnecessary moisture.
Things You'll Need
- A shop vacuum
- A soft brush
Time Involved
15-20 minutes
What You Need to Do
- Turn off the power to the fan. You can do this with the switch in the bathroom you use to turn the fan on and off.
- Remove the vent cover from the fan. This is normally done by simply pulling down on it. It is held in with spring clips. Pay attention if there are any other connectors and take care of those. If your fan has a light, there could be a wire connection that you will need to remove as well.
- Clean the vent cover with the brush and vacuum.
- Use the shop vacuum to vacuum out the fan cavity in the ceiling. Use the small tip and brush tip to help reach into crevices and remove dust. Don't be afraid to use the soft brush as well.
- Reinstall the vent cover.
- Vacuum up any mess.
- Flip the switch and ensure everything is working great.
- Mark this task complete.
