Check and maintain Air Conditioning
Every 4 months on the 3rd
Your home's air conditioning can be the difference between loving life and being miserable. Make sure you don't neglect your air conditioning unit. A visual inspection, along with a little bit of easy maintenance, can ensure that it is ready to keep your home cool.
Things You'll Need
- Leaf blower (helpful)
- Bleach
Time Involved
20-30 minutes
What You Need to Do
- On your indoor unit (evaporator), there is a condensation drain pipe. If yours has an access port, pour about a half a cup of bleach in the access port. This will help keep mildew and mold from growing, and clogging, your condensation line. If you don't have an access port, you can remove the bottom cover of the evaporator and pour the bleach directly in the drain pan.
- Make sure you are following the other task to change out filters on a regular basis.
- At the outside unit (the condenser), utilize a leaf blower to remove debris from the unit. Try to send air from the inside out as this will help clear the fins better.
- You can also utilize a hose to rinse down the unit. While the unit is off, you can spray from the inside to outside. Don't place the hose, or your hands or fingers, in the way of the fan on top unless you've actually shut off power to the unit.
- Mark this task complete.
